Stetsasonic - In Full Gear

On tonight's show (4 May) on Flirt FM 101.3 I will be heavily featuring Stetsaonic's 1988 masterpiece 'In Full Gear'. This album is considered as one of the most important in its influence in its production, style and content. This LP is hugely responsible for the socially aware rap and hip-hop of 90s bands such as De La Soul, Arrested Development, Digable Planets et al. The diverse styles on this album blend together as a brilliantly cohesive document, and surely rates as one of Hip-Hop finest moments.

Jobs Gets Grammy

WTF?

Steve Jobs got a Grammy for "Services to Music"!? More like disservice to music if you ask me. Mp3/iPod/iTunes has killed any quality control on music these days. In fact name one act that has broken since 2001 that has any staying power at all?

Utter shite ...

In fact Steve Jobs did not use an iPod and would not listen to anything but vinyl on his home stereo - a set up I'd imagine was pretty plush to say the very least.

Irish Reggae, Hip Hop and Funk Acts

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland have decreed that all radio shows now much have a minimum of 25% Irish music content. YIKES! ... Well, Ireland isn't really known for producing top class talent in these areas, but if you are involved with such a band or act, please do email us you details and if we like it, we will play it. Bored with the Hip Hop thing, and all its bullshit bling...

Bored with the Hip Hop thing, and all its bullshit bling, we've decided its time for something new, something real.

Hip Hop is Dead. No doubt about it, and in fact its been that way for several years now and it doesn't look like its coming back. It all about Cristal and Bootay now, none of the social consciousness that started the movement way back when.

Taking the lead from the Occupy Movement, we gonna try and see if we can come up with a soundtrack that's appropriate for these times. With that in mind, we've had to cut DJ Ozz from the show, as his brand of music tends to be more commercialised than would be appropriate. We thank him for his efforts in the past.
